Cheesy Hot Dog Scramble

Living on my own in a house with a few other people you’d think I’d have all sorts of opportunities to cook and prepare food and learn the ins and outs of the kitchen. Preparing new dishes and making old favorites would become a daily happening, yes? No. I tend to work fairly long hours, grab a bite to eat when I can on my way to or from somewhere else, or whip up something that’s tried and true — and pretty standard. Occasionally I stray from old standbys by mixing elements of a few together to make something delicious. Here’s my first foray.

Now this is not groundbreaking stuff. I’m probably somewhere between the fourteenth and four-hundred-thousandth person to think this one up, but here’s how I went about it.

Cheesy Hot Dog Scramble

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Cut the hot dogs into small pieces (as you would for a wee tot) while sizzling the butter to a melt in a frying pan.
  2. Fry up the hot dog bits on the frying pan, flipping them often enough to prevent burning
  3. While frying up the hot dog bits, whisk four eggs with ground pepper and shredded cheese in a small bowl
  4. Remove the hot dogs from the frying pan, leaving the resulting grease in the pan.
  5. Pour the whisked eggs, pepper, and cheese into the pan and prepare as scrambled
  6. When the eggs have coagulated enough, add the hot dog bits and mix all together.

Serves two. Delicious on a toasted sandwich or by its lonesome!

Sounds all to familiar.

This sounds awesome. I’ll have to try it this week.

Keep blogging “cooking for dudes who totally don’t have time to cook” type stuff… it will motivate me to do some cooking myself :-)

Yeah definitely! I had this idea tonight while preparing this for an “all hot dog” cookbook. I think it would be spectacular. Probably already exists. If so, I must find it, buy it, and prepare and eat everything in it.

Good lord, the husband is totally with you on this one. Hot dogs? Eggs? Cheese? YES.

When I used to travel for work, he would have a solitary guy’s night and eat only pigs-in-a-blanket. Blech. Good as an appetizer, but not good as your sole sustenance.

I believe we’ve already came up with a few recipe’s for the “all hot dog cookbook”, but you better keep experimenting! We should look into that whole injecting other foods inside the hot dog thing…

If you successfully inject cheese into a hot dog, such that the cheese inside the hot dog is like the cream inside a Twinky, I will fly to California to eat it.

They pretty much have injected cheese dogs, dude. And they suck! But good thinking. We’re headed down the right path with anything that combines cheese and hot dogs.

“They” may have injected cheese dogs, and those may very well suck, but has PETE attempted to create a cheese-filled hot dog? If not, the verdict is still out on whether it can be done (and done well).

And if Pete can do it, he may be able to pass the knowledge along to the rest of us… come to think of it, I have a tool designed for injecting cream into cupcakes… maybe I’ll play around with injecting different types of cheese into hot dogs…

HT - I have not attempted that … yet. But it sounds awesome, and must be tried.
